Female adventurers no.2: THE QUEEN OF THE HIGHLANDS. Not the Scottish Highlands, mind you, but the Albanian ones. Edith Durham, after a long period of nursing her sick mother, was in 1900 sent to the Adriatic coast to recuperate. It wouldn’t be the last trip to the Balkans… After a pro-Serb phase she fell in love with Albania (controversy described on wikipedia) and travelled alone trough the rough Highlands.
